You can see the scanned certificate and the letter from President Obama at the GISCorps site.
Not sure what the award is/is for?
The President's Volunteer Service Award is an initiative of the Corporation for National and Community Service and is administered by the Points of Light Institute.
The award (about page) is generic and recognizes hours of service and inspiring others to serve. More than two million organizational and individual awards have been bestowed.
GISCorps does great things; awards like this are just icing on the cake of service.

The Cultural Heritage Administration [Korea] said Thursday it will launch a new information service in March that will pinpoint the location of historic sites and give users information on regulations in places where construction is scheduled.
The service is a revamped and expanded version of the existing Cultural Heritage GIS Service (http://gis-heritage.go.kr). GIS stands for geographic information service. The CHA will finish a pilot run of the new service by next month and officially launch it on March 1.

New England URISA is hosting a one day, inexpensive ($45 in advance!) event on Oct. 3 at Old Sturbridge Village. I've been asked to give the keynote address, which I've titled Preparing for GIS in 2012. The single track conference means everyone sees every presentation. There's plenty of time to network between sessions and at lunch. One session worthy of note focusses on three of the different certifications currently available to those in our field: APSRS, Esri and GISP.
I'll see you there!

As of August 2: "So far, more than 500 individuals have taken advantage of the offer to join URISA for $20." The real question is how may will convert to full fare memberships after the discounted year ends.
This type of marketing worked on me with an online sporting goods store. It was $1.99 for the first year, then auto-renewed at $25. And, with free shipping and disocunts on everything, I found even the full fare membership was a deal.

The restrictions: "This offer is available to anyone who is not currently a dues-paying member of URISA International and has not been a member in the past 2 years." And several of the benefits listed are "priceless," so it's clearly a deal.
