As part of the organization's 100th birthday celebration, scouts created a free "Girl Scout Cookie Locator" app for the iPhone and Android.
But some folks are nervous - not understanding that the app only lists Cookie booths, not scout home addresses. Booths always have adults present.

On Wednesday INRIX released an updated version of INRIX Traffic for Windows Phone 7. "This community-powered traffic app provides WP7 users up-to-the-minute traffic information and traffic forecasts for drivers routes which saves time, money and reduces frustration traveling to the places they go every day." You get: real-time traffic conditions, incidents along your route, and traffic impacting events in your area and these new features:
-
Traffic Forecasts: Look up to 8 hours ahead to see what you can expect when you hit the road. Nobody likes to be late and this feature helps drivers determine the best time to leave based on how traffic conditions are expected to impact travel times.
-
Quick Reporting: Report accidents and police activity along your route to help other drivers save time and travel safely.
-
Landscape Mode: For additional versatility based on viewing preference.
It's free from the Microsoft App Marketplace.

HopStop has a new tool on its website (soon to be added to apps): it "allows commuters searching for local directions to their next destination to quantify the positive impact of their transit-based travel on the environment, as compared to driving a car, and to identify the best transit route in order to minimize their carbon footprint."

The community manager for HopStop (i can't say it or type it!) reports:
HopStop, the leading provider of pedestrian navigation and transit routing, surpassed the 100,000 download mark [for Android] in just five months since beta-launching the app in mid-December.
Averaging nearly 1,000 downloads per day, HopStop’s has quickly catapulted into the Top 40 free Travel & Local apps within the Android Market. HopStop's Android app was also recently chosen as a "Top Pick" by T-Mobile, and the app's initial launch was sponsored by Barnes & Noble (in support of The Nook).
The app is free. I've been tracking the company/app since 2007 when I said it would not make it. I still don't use it and still can't pronounce or type the app name with ease. It seems to be successful despite my issues, however.
