Today, the U.S. Census announced their plans for release of demographic data captured by the decennial census. In the February and March, Census Redistricting data (P.L. 94-171) Summary File will be released that contains state population counts for race and Hispanic or Latino categories and state housing units by occupancy status (occupied units, vacant units). Details on the release of additional data can be found below (Source: U.S. Census Bureau).

The decennial census of the United States is a massive undertaking and maintaining the mapping products that support the effort requires managing a large Oracle Spatial database. In this interview, Nick Padfield and Stephanie Spahlinger of the Geography Division of the U.S. Census Bureau describe the process for managing the spatial data that helps them churn out maps for a variety of constituents from census enumerators to Congress.

What’s different about the 2010 Decennial U.S. Census? While we’ve all received the 10 question survey from the Census Bureau, there is one big change this year…the "long form" is gone! So, if you were one of the lucky ones in the past that had to complete a more lengthy form that allowed the Census Bureau to collect more specific demographics, you will be disappointed. In 2010, the American Community Survey (ACS) officially replaces the long form. In this episode of DMTV, we look at how the ACS will be conducted for 2010 and beyond.
