Why is Imperial News Reviewing Maptitude?

I really don't know why Imperial Valley News reviewed the new version of Maptitude. The review, titled "Maptitude Software - Exceeds Expectations - Product Review," gives me pause. It's quite vague and it does not sound like the reviewers did much more than open the box (to find out how many pages were in the tutorial) and read the website. Maptitude is just the third software product to be reviewed since mid-2007 and it sure doesn't sound like the "Test Bench" team knows much about GIS.

The publication has no "about" page, but does seem to be related to several local news sites. Those sites seem to re-purpose video from other sites and host Google ads.

Hi Adena,

Your posting raises a good question, but I believe casts a negtive light on Caliper, makers Maptitude. Is your posting inferring that Maptitude for some reason would pay for such a review, or generate the review themselves?

Instead of asking why is Imperial Valley covering Maptitude, why not ask, why are they covering any software? There are several other software reviews, but you only question Maptitude.

A little research indicates that Imperial Valley is based in southern (Imperial) California, is owned by Schurz Communications Inc., and Brad Jennings is the editor of the Imperial Valley Press. Seems like you should be asking Brad this question...

Thanks for the sleuthing, but I believe the paper to which you refer, http://www.ivpressonline.com/, does not host the review. That site and the Schurz Communications website, http://www.schurz.com/, look quite different from the "news site" I visited http://www.imperialvalleynews.com/.

As to why I question only the Maptitude review? This blog is about location technology and this is the first review of the new release I've seen.
