To clarify, this was intended to be a light-hearted perspective on the issue of secrecy - while at the same time illustrating the difficult challenges we all face. Virtual Earth takes secrecy issues, both domestic and international, very seriously. We are in dialogue with appropriate organizations regarding security concerns and how to respond - and are taking actions as needed. One challenge of security is that simply blacking out or blurring secret areas does provide information that should not be revealed - hence my comment at GITA. With locations such as the White House, the security value of the building is already well understood, so blurring does not reveal new information and satisfies security needs. As imagery improves over time, such concerns will evolve and likely increase in importance. We are acting to meet known security needs now and to prepare for other needs that will arise in the future.
