Yahoo’s Gale: Hyperlocal is too hyped

He didn’t say that exactly, but it’s the conclusion of Cian covering Gary Gale, Director of Engineering, Yahoo! Geo Technologies’ talk at the Location Business Summit this week in Amsterdam. Gale argues there are too many barriers to valuable hyperlocal apps, even though many are selling them today. Among the barriers:

-  “hyperlocal” offering have completely different levels of granularity
- location inaccuracy
- “Babel” when it comes to sharing location data from different services (“the same place can be referred to in different ways by different services”)

Did you hear Joe Francica’s interview with Gale?
