Yahoo Japan Updating Maps on Tips from Users
Japan Today reported that Yahoo Japan is enlisting users to update its internet map service. The pilot program offered by the company, and in conjuction with Alps Mapping KK asks users to input information about their neighborhoods such as updating the name of a building or reporting that a new retail outlet has opened. Information is submitted via the internet but Alps Mapping will be ground truthing the submitted information. MapInfo was an investor in Alps Mapping until earlier this year when it wrote off the remainder of its investment. Yahoo Japan took over operations of the company in December 2004
