Was Autodesk the first public company to bring an open source geo product to market?

Autodesk’s VP Lisa Campbell makes that statement in an interview at GIS Development.

The other thing we are excited about and is unique to our company is that we are the first public GEOSPATIAL software company to bring open source product to the market.

I don’t think of Autodesk as a geospatial software company; I see it more as as software company that serves many areas. It does offer geospatial products, but they are not the biggest part of the business.

More to the point, is Autodesk the first public company (geospatial or otherwise) to turn out an open source product? I’m thinking of BBN and OpenMap. But maybe BBN was not public when that came out? Any other nominations?
