Update: Open-Source Street View? Google Says Not Yet, but Soon Enough?

Somewhat related is Google’s project in India that provides GPS for locals to capture information that will perhaps go into Google products. That headline caught me, too. Unfortunately, the title, from of all places Popular Mechanics, goes on to answer reader mail about contributing user generated imagery to Google StreetView. Short answer: not now, but likely not soon, but perhaps someday. I guess to Popular Mechanics user contributed content means “open source.”
