Google has banned the GPS-spyware infected TapSnake game from its Android marketplace noting a policy violation, but the developer argued, successfully to some, that the game’s supporting docs explained how the game and tracking work together. Moreover, to have the tracking work took some doing.

Foursquare has updated its settings and tools related to privacy. “For example, you can now choose to share your email or phone number with friends, opt out of all Mayorships, and have more control over email settings.” There’s also a chart to help people understand what’s public and what’s not and how to control it.

The free game “Tap Snake” available from the Android Market includes some spyware, F-Secure warned on Tuesday. The spyware, a commercial program called GPS Spy, reports the phone’s location back to the developers every 15 minutes. The expectation is that the tame will be removed from the market or Google will use a remote kill on it.
