ITT Corp. which makes night-vision goggles for the military and the payload on GPS satellites, reached a patent-infringement settlement of claims it filed against Nokia Oyj over assisted- global position system technology. No details on money changing hands.
The company filed suit last year against Nokia and Verizon, LG Electronics, Kyocera Corp. and QualComm. The rest of the suits are pending. ITT settled with Samsung on the same issue in 2006.
The 1994 patent (5,365,450) in question protects a GPS system that can transmit position information to mobile receivers from Earth-orbiting satellites in urban areas with line-of-sight obstructions, according to its U.S. Patent and Trademark Office description.
