Update: Esri’s Data.gov GeoViewer Available
Update: FCW notes the viewer, in particular that Dangermond mentioned it at Gov 2.0 on September 8.

Martin Hogoweg from Esri details what it is and how it works (lots of steps, internally and potential frustration for the user). I guess he now works for Esri’s communications group. : )
He announced it on Monday and I guess only James Fee (blog post) reads his blog. James’ attempt to use it failed. Mine required the system to do some work with incompatible datasets (I wonder if regular people will understand that message?) but did give me the chance to select my preferred rendering color for the dataset in the Flex viewer. I used this dataset; click on the “preview” on the right to launch the viewer.
After the recent confusion related to this effort I hoped communications efforts (Data.gov and/or Esri and/or ?) would be far out ahead of it. Instead, information is trickling out via an unofficial Esri blog. Does that reflect how seriously our government is taking this effort?
