Children in Lebanon, New Hampshire, are more than twice as likely to have their tonsils removed as those in Bangor, Maine. Kids in Lewiston, Maine, are 50 percent more likely to have a CT scan of their head than are kids in Portland, Maine, or Lebanon and Burlington, Vermont.
That's right the Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care is out with a report (pdf) on the variations in the healthcare of children this week. Apparently this is the first study, focussed on northern New England, that confirms variations in healthcare for kids from place to place.
ProPublica released a new tool, ER Wait Watcher, that shows either the average wait time per state or, by inputting your current address, which emergency room will get you to a doctor the fastest. The data is from hospitals' self-reported data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The new mobile app will enable [Dubai] residents to report food related offences such as expired food item in a supermarket or spoilt food in a restaurant in real time directly by taking pictures or videos and identifying the location on an interactive map.
Abu Dhabi introduced a similar app ealier this year.
