Remote Sensing Tidbits

The media is again obsessed with how many people showed up to a rally on the National Mall. This time CBS paid the aerial imagery company to collect and interpret the imagery. The latest number I saw: 215,000 which dwarfed the 150,000 Comedy Central mentioned on the day of the event.

GeoMetWatch, Inc. has announced that NOAA’s Commercial Remote Sensing Regulatory Affairs Office, an agency of the Department of Commerce, has granted it the nation’s first commercial remote sensing license for a geostationary hyperspectral imaging/sounding system.

Wales could become the first European country to produce a national map of its wildlife habitats using satellite technology. It will update a field survey based map completed in 1997. The new map should be ready by 2012.
