Remote Sensing for Slimy Pools in Northern California

Aerial imagery will be used to track neglected pools and ponds in Santa Clara County in the coming weeks. It’s part of Vector Control, aka urban mosquito control, to prevent the spread of West Nile Virus. Planes start flying today. No word on if the imagery is reviewed manually or processed, but this is the third year it’s been done. If a slimy pool/pond is found, owners are encouraged by the county to clean them up. The public responds well and to date the $1000/day fine has not been imposed.
