Remote Sensing Finds Underground Lake Below Darfur

I heard this several days ago as the fellow who found it, Farouk El-Baz, director of the Center for Remote Sensing at Boston University, is a local guy. It’s unclear whether there’ll still be water there and if so, if it will help the tensions in the region.

Trivia: Mr. El-Baz has a shuttle craft named after him in Star Trek: The Next Generation. (I don’t know why I know that…)
