Press Release Roundup
Yesterday was a big day for press releases that are worthy of comment, so comment I will!
ESRI’s new book, The GIS 20: Essential Skills, “is an indispensable workbook that helps readers master the top 20 skills that are necessary to become proficient in using ArcGIS software.” I’m really curious to see what those skills are and to see if they are also key skill for GIS in general and/or on other platforms.
“Spatial Energy, the leading source for digital imagery and services for the energy industry , today announced plans to integrate Microsoft Corp.’s Bing Maps Map Control and MapPoint Web Service into Spatial on Demand – the world’s largest energy-specific online database.” Is Microsoft getting out ahead by getting its service into professional level GIS offerings (including ArGIS and other desktop GIS packages)? Will that in time compete with ESRI basemap offerings?
Ford’s SYNC technology is getting more “off” buttons to help limit driver distraction. Safety a concern? Sure, but also new state regs limiting use of tech devices in the car.
