Precision Ag Used to Promote Commercial Bread

Sara Lee’s new campaign for its EarthGrains highlights the use of precision agriculture. The bread includes 20% Eco-Grain wheat. What is Eco-Grain?

Eco-Grain wheat “is grown using ‘precision agriculture,’ an innovative farming practice shown to reduce the use of fertilizer and fuel, which is better for the environment. This is our first step toward improving the environmental benefits of our products and we know that more can be done.”
...
Sara Lee said Eco-Grain wheat is produced by using a combination of satellite imagery and soil samples to identify the best use of fertilizer so the farmer can apply it with greater precision.

Cargill helped Sara Lee develop Eco-Grain.

The new bread is making headlines in part because watchdog groups feel the campaign is unethical and misleading.
