Open Source in Big Business

Information Week
has published an article about the use of open source software at the corporate level. No longer the purview of just hackers, big business is finding that open source applications meet their needs better than commercial off-the-shelf software (COTS). Companies big and small are developing respositories of open source code that have been "vetted" to meet the internal standards of companies in order to work with the COTS the company already supports. UPS, Walt Disney, and ABN AMRO are openly touting the advantages. And what about open source geospatial applications? We want your input as we explore this topic further in Directions Magazine and at our conference next April, where we have an call for papers ongoing.
