OGC Launches Interoperability Institute

This week’s OGC News (which I edit as a consultant to OGC) notes a new member, the OGC Interoperability Institute (OGCII), “a scientific and educational organization dedicated to continued improvements in worldwide application of interoperable geoprocessing technologies and spatial data.” The website lists these objectives for the :

- Examine current and prior research on geospatial topics to identify research shortfalls and gaps.
- Help form research collaboratives to accomplish this research through studies, testbeds, pilot initiatives, and infrastructure development.
- Facilitate and provide education and outreach so the research brings societal benefits and improvements in government services.
- Secure funding to support research to fill these gaps.

A prospectus (pdf) notes organizations from whom OGCII would seek funding and requests partners in the endeavor.
