Missed at CES: C3 Technologies Amazing 3D Imagery
I listened to I think all the BOL episodes about CES, but only this week did I read about C3 Technologies out of Sweden and it’s top notch 3D data and SDK.
“... it was developed from recently declassified missile targeting technology originally developed by Swedish aerospace powerhouse Saab.”
This discussion of the data capture reminds me of GeoTango (Microsoft acquired that.) Oh, and the processing is fully automated.
All of the C3 products are based on high-resolution photography captured with carefully calibrated cameras. For every picture, the positions and angles of the cameras are calculated with extremely high precision, using an advanced navigation system. This is what enables C3 to give each pixel its geographical position with very high accuracy.
The Realistic 3D City Models are calculated directly from aerial images and are not dependent of any laser-scanned data (LIDAR). The street level imagery is captured using an advanced multiple camera system with overlapping viewing angles to capture the entire surroundings in stereo
For rapid production scaling of aerial content C3 has chosen to use a standard camera system that can be used inside standard aircraft. With this approach C3 is able to contract flight operator partners world wide to acquire the requested images. Cloning a camera system for production in a specified area is manageable within two months so new areas can be captured rapidly.
Here’s some of the coverage highlighting the detail of the imagery.
- Cult of Mac - they had it as “best of”; apps run on iPhone, iPad, Android
