Local Newspapers Create Interactive (Advertising) Maps
The Berkshire Eagle (which serves western Massachusetts) has joined a few Vermont town newspapers by adding an interactive map to its website. The altogether too cute map (which includes planes and balloons flying over) is aimed at letting locals and visitors know what going on. The map, beginning today, will be reprinted in the paper each Friday. But it’s clear this all about advertising: “The Eagle’s interactive map has enough room for 50 Berkshire County businesses to post information about their ventures. Twenty- six business have so far paid to advertise on the map. For more information on weekly advertising rates call The Berkshire Eagle’s advertising department…”
There’s no information on how the paper plans to drive traffic to the map.
