Local GIS Tidbits
Utah is running out of maps and travel guides! There are about 10,000 maps left until the next printing at year’s end. How to deal?
According to the Travel Division’s Tracie Cayford, travelers contacting her agency are currently receiving a post card with a link to the online travel guide, a printed single sheet on must-see Utah destinations and guides to state and national parks.
Steve Carey offers a nice roundup of community mapping efforts (some print, some online) in and around Victoria, BC and wide range of goals they can serve.
Several states have updated their websites including with geo-related goodies:
Tennessee: “Location-based content: driven by GeoIP to tailor site content based on a visitor’s location, including local government meetings, news, and information and mapping.”
Alabama: “expanded interactive mapping services, featuring the ability to select multiple locations of interest—including universities, hospitals, highway rest stops and state parks—and generate mash-up maps”
