LightSquared Update - Both Sides Share what they Learned at #ESRIUC, Two Orgs Request FCC Shelve Plan - 8/2/11

Rather than attempt to objectively report on what each side said, Professional Surveyor Magazine asked Jeff Carlisle of LightSquared and Pete Large of Trimble and the “Save Our GPS” consortium, to summarize what they took away from the two days of open discourse in San Diego, and what they intended to take back to their respective camps.

- Professional Surveyor

AOPA [Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association] and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) ... participants in the technical working group in the case through their representatives on the Program Management Committee of RTCA Inc., filed formal comments with the FCC on Aug. 1. AOPA and GAMA strongly urged the FCC to recall the waiver granted in January to LightSquared conditional on tests and solutions to now-confirmed interference with GPS. LightSquared has “entirely failed” to solve interference problems, which threaten the future of a GPS-based air traffic system—and no technology exists to provide a remedy, they said in the joint filing.

Maybe working group folks get more time for comments. Everyone else's were due on Saturday (July 30).
