Checking in on a tablet? Not so much. “Our user numbers indicate that somewhere between 2% – 4% of check-ins take place through an iPad. This may grow slightly, but we expect the mobile phone to continue to be the device-of-choice for broadcasting check-ins.”

JiWire did a study and confirmed: “the bigger the discount, the further people will travel.” TechCrunch concludes: “JiWire’s data indicates that the opportunity to reach new customers goes far beyond the check-in and can draw new customers, even from more than an hour away, into stores.” I continue to push for offers based on one’s “orbit,” that is where they regularly go.

Forrester share 10 insights for mobile for 2011 including this one related to LBS:
Foursquare is in serious trouble, according to Forrester, which believes stand-alone location-based social networks such as the popular check-in service will have a hard time remaining viable versus Facebook Places. Places leverages a network of 600 million-plus users, 100 times that of Foursquare’s current user base.
There are vote pro: HTML5 over apps, casual gaming oh, and tablets are mobile devices.
