Pols are already using target YouTube pre-reels to target voters based on location. Here’s how it could work:
Using Google’s in-stream ads, those brief commercials you see before before YouTube clips, campaigns can now go after potential voters with geo-location technology and content interest-targeting. For example, if Levi Johnston’s rumored campaign spends some ad dollars, residents of Wasilla might see the ex-Palin camper pitch his mayoral campaign before viewing YouTube videos. Or, if Levi pollsters see a weakness in, say, public reception of his family values, the campaign could target only Alaskan viewers of YouTube’s Parenting category.
A Wisconsin governor wannabe has already used the service.

MessageParty is a location-based chat room client. You can chat with friends in a bar or create a chat room for a conference. There are even city-wide chat rooms and an “Everyone Party,” which speaks for itself. It utilizes Facebook Connect for logins and uses your Facebook picture as your Avatar.
The app is for iPhone from an early-stage YCombinator-funded startup called MessageParty.

Foursquare 2.0 is in beta as of Aug 24 and is in the hands of several dozen “friends of the company.” If all goes well, it will submitted to the Apple AppStore next week. There are no big new features; those are expected in the future “dot” releases (2.1, etc).
