Landsat 8 Propelled into Orbit

The Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM), now Landsat 8, was launched into orbit today at 10:02 a.m. Pacific Time from Vandenberg Air Force Base on an Atlas V rocket from United Launch Alliance (ULA). Replays of the launch can be see at NASA TV.

It's a day to be proud of our investment in land remote sensing technology. Landsat has served the United States and that of many scientific endeavors in many countries very well. Since 1972, Landsat has brought the world a closer look at its environment and natural resources. This mission serves to continue the goal of being better land stewards for policy, scientific, and advocacy applications.
