Indian NGO Tackles Urban Problems with GIS
CIO India Magazine interviews the principals of Janaagraha, an non-governmental organization (NGO), that is spurring the use of GIS technology to combat poor urban planning. Swati and Ramesh Ramanathan, co-founders of Janaagraha, take on the Indian government’s decidely restrictive uses of geospatial data as a hindrance to future urban planning that must occur as the country expands. While each government agency looks to develop a separate GIS solution, the Ramanathan’s are encouraging an enterprise approach and are looking to start their own spatial data center.
