How to Run an Apps Contest and other GIS Contest News

Yes, there's a book about how to run an apps contest aimed at non-profits and government agencies. The $25 mini-book aims to save you the fees of consultants.

The Applied Geography Specialty Group (AGSG) [of AAG] announces a new award competition for development of innovative Applied Geography class exercises. We invite both faculty members and graduate students who are AAG members to submit an innovative class exercise designed for undergraduate classes on an applied geography topic with either a fictional or real-world client specified in the exercise. The subject matter topic of the exercise is open. Any data used in the exercise should be freely available on the internet OR be available for posting on the Applied Geography Specialty group website. The exercise can be single or multi-person authored. One prize ($500) will be awarded for the best exercise.

Updated deadline (I'm told, website has the old one as I write this): June 29, 2012.

Trimble is holding a student (undergrad/masters only) paper competition.

To enter, submit your completed entry form below with a written paper of 1500 words or more. The paper must describe an application and use of Trimble Survey equipment. All papers must be submitted in the English language, in Microsoft Word format.

The winner gets a trip to the Trimble Dimensions Conference in November in Vegas and will present a 45-60 PowerPoint presentation there. The student's school will receive equipment. Read the rules caefully;  I think this is the first set of rules where I read the word "bogus." Papers due: August 26, 2012.
