Green Houses Need Geodesign

USA Today reports that many, many of the celebrated green homes (U.S. Green Building Council 2009 award winners) have very low walkability scores (a measure of how much driving is required to support one’s life). That’s a good argument for geodesign - we need not just make our houses green, but locate them intelligently, as well.

My 100+ year old house outside Boston, in contrast, has few green features (installed insulation, a new roof and plastic on the windows to keep heat in) but a very high walkability score.
