Google’s 3D Tech from Stanford: Exclusive License

Frank at Google Earth Blog already broke the story about Google licensing technology from Stanford that automates the creation of 3D models (not clear from what, exactly). But, this tidbit is most interesting:

Katherine Ku, director of Stanford’s Office of Technology Licensing, said the deal with Google was completed earlier this month. Ku said elements of the deal are exclusive so the same technology will not necessarily be available to competitors.

Google seems to be really clever in its deals; it’s very clever about making sure others don’t have access to the same “goodies” it does.
