Google Shows Micrsoft KML Love

At a panel at the Web 2.0 Summit last week Brian McClendon, engineering director and product manager of Google Earth and Erik Jorgensen, general manager of Live Search were sitting next to each other. (Aww….) It’s said McClendon actually complemented Microsoft for implementing KML in the latest iteration of Virtual Earth/Live Search Maps.

Microsoft and Google can “duke it out” for customer acquisition, but “the fight shouldn’t be on file formats, so cooperating on this makes all the sense in the world,” Jorgensen said during the mini lovefest.

Also in the love department: Microsoft is back in as a member of the OGC. Nothing official from OGC, but the VE blog noted the membership.
