Google Opts Out of Tele Atlas Data for Canada

Last October Google “opted out” of licensing data from Tele Atlas and offered up its own collection of data for the U.S. In the mix it added the “Report a Problem” link to take advantage of crowdsourcing. (Oh, the irony! See yesterday’s post.)

Now, it’s the same thing up in Canada. Where was the data licensed from before? I don’t recall but the Map Room says it was also Tele Atlas.

In any case, it seems Google is going where the data is free/cheap [there could be some licensed stuff of course] and plentiful to build up its own databases. What country will be next to make the switch?
