Google Enters the Employee Tracking/Management Space with Google Maps Coordinate

The Google Maps Coordinate Service allows field workers to share their locatoins and managers to keep track of them and assign new jobs based on location. The app runs on select mobile devices and can be connected to inhouse Google Enterprise products. It's actually part of the Enterprise offerings, though users need not have made any investment in those big products to sign up for Coordinate, best I can tell. The big question is price. Answer: $15 per employee until September 1. Then...who knows!

It's interesting that Google is (some would say finally) more explicitly monetizing its location infrastructure beyond advertising. I suspect third-parties already offer similar service built on Google Maps at some level. It'll be interesting to see how they react.
