Georgia State Launches ATLmaps - A Storytelling Map App for Atlanta
The Georgia State University Cities Initiative provided a $83,000 grant for the ATLmaps project. The GSU Honors College also provides financial support for undergraduate research experiences in the center. The grant also covers The Atlanta Community Mapping and Research Project (ACMRP).
The ACMRP works in equal partnership with community-based organization to answer community-generated questions from a geographic perspective. The project works with organizations to develop existing questions within the community and a plan of action to address that question. Methods used range from mobile mapping techniques, to focus groups and participatory sketch mapping. Our aim is to engage community members in data collection and analysis process that is critical to creating maps and providing data to address community identified problems and solutions.
An AngularJS application allowing users to create custom maps that "mash" up geospatial data layers in various collections. LeafletJS is used as the mapping API utilizing custom AngularJS directives to visualize datasources on a map.
There are already some sample maps in the gallery.
I'm curious to see how this work grows and how this interation of online crowdsourced mapping differs from other platforms and efforts.
