Funding for Underground Pipe Mapping
A L1 million is being distributed to universities in the UK to figure a way to map the countryТs underground infrastructure Ц pipes carrying water and sewage and cables for electricity and phone service. Called УMapping the UnderworldФ the goal is better mapping which in turn will mean less disruption when repairs are required. Tags may be placed above ground to note underground assets and there will be experiments with tagging new pipes so they are easy to find with ground penetrating sensors.
