Franklin, NC Notifies Those in 100 Year Floodplain

This seems like such a simple use of GIS. I wonder how many towns make this investment?

GIS analyst Angela Moore suggested that through a direct mailing the town notify each landowner within the newly mapped 100-year floodplain of the changes to the flood zones. The new flood maps have been issued with an effective date sometime in the next year. The board voted to send out the letters and to establish dates and times to hold education sessions concerning the advantages and disadvantages associated with the town’s status with the NFIP, which the town is currently not participating in.
