Express Server 7 from LizardTech Focuses on Speed and Easy Setup
LizardTech is releasing a Express Server version 7 today, the company's image distribution software, with enhancements to both performance and administration. From spinning up the image data disc to viewing imagery takes less than 30 minutes according to Jon Skiffington, product manager. In the past, set up for Express Server was a more manual process but this release includes several common, default settings that streamlines the administrative process. Performance improvements include the expansion of addressable memory with this 64-bit release of Express Server.
With the release of the next generation of the MrSID format last fall, Express Server is now capable of handling multispectral imagery beyond three bands, a limitation from previous versions. MrSID 4 support is built into Express Server with this release. Express Server will also be able to publish data to other web application via WMS, for example, as well as third party GIS servers like ArcGIS Server, MapGuide, etc.
The workflow most people will use to get MrSID imagery into Express Server is via GeoExpress. Then imagery can be served to whatever format the client request such JPEG or PNG.
The State of New Jersey, with over 900 Gigabytes of compressed multispectral imagery and orthophotography, is now using Express Server, and while having tested many applications to serve imagery, has selected Express Server because of its performance in support of their large image archive.
