Elmhurst Announces Online Applied Geospatial Sciences Graduate Program, MOOC

Rich Schultz, Program Director, Applied Geospatial Sciences Graduate Program at Elmhurst College School for Professional Studies shares:

At Elmhurst College, in suburban Chicago, we're launching a new entirely online Graduate Program in Applied Geospatial Sciences (AGS) in Fall 2014: both a graduate certificate and full Master's Degree with thesis will be offered. Pass the word to any potential students or colleagues who might be interested. There are several unique aspects to the program that I feel are worth noting to those who are interested:

--All courses are closely aligned with the Geospatial Technology Competency Model (GTCM)
--Six (6) courses comprise the graduate certificate in Applied Geospatial Sciences including coursework in programming, web mapping, and an e-portfolio course.
--Ten (10) courses make up the full Master's Degree including all coursework of the graduate certificate plus graduate internship experience and a full geospatial research thesis.
--Students may choose to take a Project Management course to complete a Professional Science Masters designation endorsed by the United States National Research Council (NRC) or an elective to specialize in a specific facet of geospatial technologies.
--All courses stress active learning, so what is learned in terms of skill sets, will be immediately applicable in the workplace or the classroom.

Admission requirements here: If you're not sure whether you meet the prerequisites for a course, please let us know. We can often waive prerequisites for people who have prior education or life experiences.

Additionally, we will be offering a MOOC in Spring 2014 (probably March or April) that will allow prospective students to gain badges for skills and have a course in the program waived upon full completion of the MOOC. Stay tuned for further details!
