Don’t Swipe…Blink! - JP Morgan Chase to issue RFID Credit Cards
Wave good-bye to swiping. Your credit card just become the front lines of the consumer side of radio frequency identification (RFID). RFIDInsights news is reporting that JP Morgan Chase & Co. will begin issuing RFID-embedded credit cards with technology they call "blink" to customers in two unidentifed cities this summer. "Blink" will allow users to hold their Visa or Mastercard in front of the point of sale terminal to conduct the transaction. Sheetz Inc., a convenience store operator in Pennsylvania and other states, will co-brand a credit card with Chase that will be issued to customers. Chase is also hoping to partner with other c-stores like 7-Eleven and fast fooders like McDonald’s.
And of course you can see what’s coming. Blink for toll roads; blink for grocery stores; blink for voter registration…and by the way, a bill was passed this week by Congress on the Real ID card. Pretty soon, we’ll be dropping bread crumbs across the country and tracking will be easier than ever. Are you ready to compromise that much privacy?
