Dangermond Speaks at TRANS4M
This was the second year for entrepreneur and recording artist will.i.am's Trans4m conference. Among the topics: themes of Community, Wellness, and S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Education. Among the speakers were President Bill Clinton, Inventor Dean Kamen, White House Chief Technology officer Ken Park and Astronaut Leland Melvin and students from Los Angeles's Roosevelt High School. The event held at the California Science Center in LA last Thursday February 7th, along with a concert, raised $3.3. million for the i.am.angelfoundation.
Jack Gormond [sic], of ESRI [sic], spoke of his mapping technology that allows one to organize available data about a community's health, wellness, crime, voting patterns, and develop information-based solutions. This information, Gormond said, provides project-based learning for students, and allows them to create bottom-up solutions. Comedian and panel host Baratunde Thurston quickly dubbed this "Maptivism."
