Crowdsourcing New York City Building Names Database

Tektonomastics is the Building Names project.  In particular, it “is a project to map and photograph the named buildings of New York City.” Building names reflect people’s names, place descriptors and sometimes just fun. “These eclectic names evoke a bygone era when owners, builders and designers named their buildings with personality (and humor).  By taking photographs and mapping the locations of these buildings, we hope to create a map of this forgotten landscape and help these neglected building names live once more.”

The inventory stands now at 97. There’s also a Googlemap.
