Consumer Watchdog: Don’t Let Google Acquire Waze

Consumer group Consumer Watchdog, a frequent critic of Google feels the deal would take away Google’s major competitor in mobile maps. The group sent letters to that effect to the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday. In the letters John Simpson, Consumer Watchdog’s Privacy Project director wrote:

Google already dominates the online mapping business with Google Maps. The Internet giant was able to muscle its way to dominance by unfairly favoring its own service ahead of such competitors as Mapquest in its online search results.  ... [The acquisition will also] allow Google access to even more data about online activity in a way that will increase its dominant position on the Internet.
