Consumer Reports Looks at iPhone 4 for Nav
Among the new features that may enhance mapping use for navigation:
- higher resolution screen
- gyroscope (for 6 way information about orientation, especially useful, perhaps for walking directions or capturing information for “bouncy” sports such as mountain biking and skiing)
- wider screen angle of viewing (so driver and navigator can see the screen at the same time, if its big enough)
- longer batter life
One opportunity not taken:
- “not enlarging the iPhone’s screen was an opportunity missed for Apple that would have aided map reading”
