Backseat Driver GPS Game Let’s Kids “Drive”

The app, from ToyToyota runs on iOS devices (it's free) and gives the backseater the chance to follow the actual route of the vehicle, picking up items that appear along the route (Chinese restaurant, bridge, etc.). The backseat driver uses the phone's accelerometer to steer his or her own car behind the "Papa Car" gaining points that can be used to customize the players car. And, the points and custom cars can be shared via social media.

While this is very clever and I suspect kids will love it, they won't be looking out the windows to learn about the local geography, but will be heads down trying to capture the latest object or steer the most accurate route. That doesn't teach them geography in quite the same way.

Warning: very cute video below!
