Austin Rental Map and other SXSW GIS News

The need for housing and hosting areas for next week's South by Southwest events in Austin, TX are putting pressure on the rental housing market. Last year the city passed an ordinance to better manage short term rentals. This year the city wanted to host a map of rentable properties, but so far has not. Owners of the propertiies fear putting up a detailed map would be bring burglaries and other issues because the homes are not always occupied both before, during and after the event. Opponents are exploring ther ways to advertise the rentals without providing that much detail.

Esri has a house for hacking and the like for the duration of SXSW. There'll be a trolley running I guess from a central location to said house. No details beyond this tweet.
