Apple Patent: Temporary LBS Apps
A new patent application from Apple published this week documents what can only be called a clever idea: when you get near a location an app is magically installed on your phone, when you leave, it’s uninstalled. Ideally, I supposed you’d need to opt in, but imagine walking into a restaurant and having its app (menu, maybe even online ordering) ready to go. When you leave, it’s gone. How about DisneyLand? Or the San Diego Convention Center?
The patent app, 20100120450, Location Specific Content, was originally filed in Q4 2008.
Abstract
Systems, methods, and computer program products communicate location information associated with a device, such as a mobile device, to a server. Content identified by the server is received at the device, from the server and/or from a content service. The content can include an application associated with the location information. The content received at the device is displayed on the device only while the device is at or near a particular location identified by the location information.
