Alcatel-Lucent acquires ProgrammableWeb
ProgrammableWeb, an on-line directory of over 2,000 open web APIs that I for one visit regularly because of its great coverage of mapping APIs has been acquired by communications player Alcatel-Lucent. The plan it to link te site and data with the company’s own Open API Service, a directory of APIs for telecommunications network functions. The real goal: to encourage developers, the group that are really driving mobile phone sales and the underlying networks.
