$12K 3D Model “Printer” Aimed at GIS Professionals

The 2Bot Corporation’s new tabletop model-making machine, the 2Bot ModelMaker, debuts this week and is aimed at “Architects and GIS Professionals.”

It connects to a PC like a printer and can produce 12"x12"x2” models from “virtually every CAD and GIS design format (including ArcGIS, DWG, STL, and Google SketchUp).” It carves the model from “rigid foam,” in contrast to 3D printers from the likes of Zcorp that “build up” the models using granular materials akin to “sand.”

The ModelMaker sells for $11,995 and one can begin using it within about 15 minutes according to the Redmond, Washington-based company.
