12 Minute Bus Map

Michael Perkins writing at Greater Greater Washington explains how by hand, he created a map of the buses and trains that run at least every 12 minutes. He got the idea from LA, where such a map is used to market public transportation. The logic is that if something runs that often, there’s no reason for a schedule; folks can just head to the stop knowing very soon a vehicle will come by.

Anything that makes public transit easier to understand and use, especially something that’s information based and not infrastructure-based, sounds like its worth a try to me. As a regular bus user I know the local 10 minutes buses (88 and 77 are my faves) but I’m sure non-bus folks don’t know that…
